Starting Over Again.

Ontario Wedding photographer videographer large church wedding family portraits

I shot my first wedding over 13 years ago. Took a break. And now I am beginning again. But thats a good thing.

Starting again is tough.

Hey if you’re new here, thanks for reading and visiting. I’m Daniel the owner and wedding filmmaker behind Caruso Wedding Films. I thought I would start my blog today, which I am appropriately calling my wedding journal — by sharing my thoughts on my wedding industry journey to get here today. So whether you’re a couple interested in hiring me I hope this journal will help give you some insight into who I am and how I am different from other ontario wedding videographers, or if you are a current/previous couple welcome back :) Or if you are another creative looking to learn something new I am glad you’re here.

The first thing I want to mention is that as of writing this, for 2026, I surpassed my goal of bookings. I am dancing and also nervously stressing about it haha.

But truly I can’t thank every couple that I have met in such a short time who have entrusted me with documenting your wedding day. You have given me a huge boost in spirit knowing I am on the right track. Your trust in me goes noticed and I am deeply thankful for helping me live a life with a camera in my hands.

I began my professional career in 2012 when I left college. I graduated from Humber’s Film and TV Production. But I was working on film sets way before graduation. I had big hopes to join the film production scene working on movies. I loved love stories and romcoms. I grew up silently watching them by myself. Yes The Notebook how can you not, but also movies like Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, 500 Days of Summer, Big (My name is Edward Bloom, and I will marry you) and Serendipity. There are more I’m sure. After working on many film productions and finding my way, I was part of the camera trainee program at 667 working on TV shows and indie features learning the craft.

So how do weddings come about?

Well, during my time in college and just after I was working for some larger studios in Toronto. Second shooting for both video and photography.

I slowly saw that I loved capturing real love stories. In every wedding I shot there was a way to tell that day back through moving images and audio. It just depended on whether you were looking for it or not. I was looking. And I found so much joy in an unscripted story that got made as the day went on.

Shortly after my film work I left the union and large production lifestyle to pursue weddings full time. I spent about 5 years working with studios then another 8 years working on my own company photographing couples.

Once covid came I used that as a chance to take some time off. In any vocation that you truly care about I think time away is a good thing. It recharged my creativity and gave me a chance to see things differently.

And I definitely saw something different. Because I decided to concentrate soul on wedding films again. I began my life passion creating moving images. As long as I can remember I was always tinkering with my Dad's video camera. We had a JVC, huge thing, and I just loved recording the day.

Recording the day.

That is a theme I hold dear to the core of my work. I really am just recording the day. But through my own creative eye, tools, settings and lenses. That all combines to an image bursting with passion and care. There is more to it than hitting record.

In 2025 I decided it was time. Time for me to get back to my lifes work. What I truly am meant to do. After such a long time working with a camera, it has taken me to realizing that I am here to help you document your wedding day. I absolutely love it.

But starting is hard. I am back to zero followers. Zero demo reel. And no connections. Lucky for me I have some wonderful friends who photograph weddings and quickly I was filming weddings again this past year. And now I have a full 2026 season with some amazing people I just can’t wait to get started.

While it looks like I might be a bit new to the industry, please know I am just starting over again, not starting. I had a great time off to refocus my work and style and will continue to create truly unique documentary styled wedding films.

Thanks for being here and following along my work. This year is going to be amazing so please keep following along.

Have a super day, chat with you soon.
