About Me

Hey I’m Daniel, Ontario Wedding Filmmaker.

It is so great to meet you.

Most days you can fine me in nature enjoying the day in my barefeet running around playing with my dog Mio. The country air and being surrounded by forest and trees is my happy place. Cameras and filmmaking are my main hobbies and enjoyment in life but I also enjoy learning piano again, jeeping through the trails and a bit of leather craft making bags.

Why Weddings

Weddings are something I fell into but had no idea would love capturing. I always thought that narrative fiction film would be where I would end up. I loved working on long format movies, but it was the strong scripts and love stories I grew to enjoy watching.

Once I began shooting real life unscripted moments I saw a great opportunity to bring my passion and expertise of documenting life in my own unique way to couples just like you, eager to have beautiful images of their once in a lifetime moment. After I worked with weddings for a few years, I decided to leave film production behind and focus full time on wedding work.

After 14 years I love every day I get to work on wedding films.

How it all began

I am a natural born documentarian and the idea of capturing the day has always fascinated me.

Since I was as young as I can remember, around 12 years old, I was always interested in my Dad’s film camera and JVC video camera he had used to document our family. It was one of those large VHS cameras that made me feel like I was part of the news crew. I would go out in the yard and capture what I saw. Although many times with no film or tape inside, as I have come to realize now in my adult age. Little did I know it would spark an interest to where I am today.

I graduated from Humber College in Film Production and would work in narrative, documentary and commercial film work as a Camera Assistant for many years before I went full time with Weddings.

My Style

I call what I do Documentary Wedding Films.

While it may not translate to a complete documentary with interviews (but we can do that, just ask me how!) the theme of a documentary is all about filming in a real, raw and cinematic way that translates to what I like to call for your wedding day - “the warm fuzzies”.

I want you to relive your wedding day just as you are there again. To be a participant in the film and not just a silent observer watching pretty shots. They have to mean something.

Through my approach of real shoulder mount handheld, lens choice and creative eye it is my own recipe for my style to help document your day. Audio also plays a big role so I focus a lot on capturing good audio and use it where I can.

Artful intention is at the core of how I think when I film. How can this moment be captured in a way it will best work in your story and final film.

I also work with couples to change up the creative a little bit if you have a different vision along the documentary theme, please let me know!

My Approach to working with you

I strive to work with you like we are old friends. My approach is friendly, fun and easy going. I only direct where and when needed, because even the very best documentaries had a direct, but remain an observer for most of the day. I want you to be super comfortable in front of my camera so we capture natural smiles and real emotions. Your story matters to me. So how I work with you matters too. It allows us to capture the real you together, not something made up for the camera.

The most important thing for me is to have you enjoy your wedding day without me getting in the way.

Editing

Shooting for the edit is a big part of the filmmaking process. So what good is hiring a wedding video company who doesn’t edit your film? I edit, mix audio and colour your entire film. You work with me through the whole process and I am the one creating your story from my shots in the edit. Everything from pacing, shot selection, audio choice and location audio used is all intentional and used with care.

Every shot also has to be coloured. Meaning I will add on a look that adds to the mood and theme of the image. This process takes time but I feel it is the only way for me to give you the very best film while allowing me convey my vision. Colour is all around us. It evokes a special feeling when done right and is the icing on the cake for complete your documentary wedding film.

Am I Your Wedding Filmmaker?

If you are looking for an Ontario Wedding Filmmaker (Videographer) that will help you document your day in a real and authentic way, then heck yeah!

I take on the small-studio-work-directly-with-the-artist approach which means I am sole operator, shooter and editor.

You work with me the whole way through. If you have a question, I am a call or text away. Want to discuss the schedule, easy lets video chat. Want to make an edit change, let’s do that. Visit my home studio for final viewing, for sure coffee is already brewing. I don’t like the large studio approach and stuff that gets in the way with that. No gimmicks. I believe in working directly with the artist you are hiring and that is the experience I want to bring for you.
